salary.gg answers one question that single-country calculators can't: where does your salary actually rank — at home, and around the world?

What it does

Enter your country, salary, and birth year. salary.gg instantly places your pay in the wage distribution of 14 countries at once — Korea, Japan, the United States (50 states + D.C.), the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Australia, Singapore, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. You see your percentile both within your age cohort and across all ages, plus your estimated take-home pay after that country's taxes and social insurance.

How it's built — methodology

  • Age to the exact year. Every country publishes wage data in age bands (five-year, ten-year, or wider). We interpolate each country's bands to single-year granularity, so your exact birth year is used rather than a coarse bracket.
  • Cohort and all-ages ranking. For each country we compute both your rank among people your age and your rank across the whole workforce.
  • Honest currency conversion. Cross-country comparisons use nominal market exchange rates, not purchasing-power parity — so the same pay can rank near the top in one country and mid-pack in another. We say so, rather than hiding the difference.
  • Take-home pay applies each country's current income-tax brackets and statutory employee social-insurance rates.

What it is not

salary.gg is an informational tool, not financial or tax advice. Take-home figures are estimates based on standard assumptions (single filer, no dependants unless noted) and will differ from your actual payslip. Where a country's official data has limitations (for example, a survey that caps its top tail, or income measured across all earners rather than full-time only), we disclose it on that country's page rather than papering over it.

Why we built it

Pay transparency is uneven and usually national. Someone comparing an offer in Singapore against one in Germany, or wondering whether a raise keeps pace with peers, had no single honest reference. salary.gg is that reference — built on official data, transparent about its methods and its limits.
