How we compute your France salary rank
We use INSEE's distribution of private-sector net pay (2024, Insee Première n°2079) to pinpoint where your salary lands. Your entered gross (brut) salary is converted to net after 2025 employee social contributions and ranked within the full-time-equivalent (EQTP) distribution. The private-sector net median is €2,190/month and the mean is €2,733/month. Income tax is household-based, so it is not included (net avant impôt).
Sources and reliability
All data is sourced from official French bodies: INSEE private-sector net pay EQTP distribution 2024 (Insee Première n°2079) and URSSAF / Agirc-Arrco 2025 employee contribution rates (private, non-cadre). No proprietary adjustments — only official statistics. Percentiles are on net pay, with cohorts approximated using INSEE age-band means (<25/25-39/40-49/50-54/55+). Income tax is household-based (quotient familial) and is not modeled (net avant impôt).
Frequently asked questions
- How is the France salary percentile calculated?
- We use the 2024 INSEE distribution of private-sector net pay (EQTP, full-time equivalent). Your entered gross (brut) salary is converted to net after employee social contributions (cotisations salariales) to place your salary. The private-sector net median is €2,190/month and the mean is €2,733/month (INSEE 2024).
- How is take-home pay (net) calculated?
- Using 2025 employee social contributions for private-sector non-cadre workers: old-age insurance (vieillesse), CSG/CRDS, and supplementary pension (Agirc-Arrco). For non-cadre these run about 20.8% of gross, leaving roughly 79% net. Income tax (impôt sur le revenu) is not modeled because it depends on the household and quotient familial — matching INSEE's net-avant-impôt convention.
- Why is income tax not included?
- French income tax is assessed on the household (foyer fiscal) via the quotient familial (marital status and dependents), so it cannot be derived from salary alone. INSEE's official figures also use net-before-tax (net avant impôt) pay, and this site follows the same basis.
